Date: June 2010 - Tetiaroa

THE VEHIA
From Papeete or from Moorea, the catamaran Vehia takes you to Tetiaroa.

To discover an atoll during just a few days of vacation in Polynesia may turn to be expensive and complicated to organize.
However, North of Tahiti (30 nautical miles), there is a mythical atoll with which Marlon Brando fell in love in the early 1960's. Tetiaroa seems so close, yet appears almost inaccessible.
But, there is the Vehia, a 15m (40ft) catamaran, performing and comfortable to get there in an exceptional day and discover "paradise".

Since about 20 years, the Vehia takes day after day hundred of enthusiastic passengers to Tetiaroa, leaving from Papeete, but also from Moorea. New this year a Sunday per month.   The crossing lasts barely more than 2 hours. This is the time it will take you to appreciate in the early morning (departure 7:00AM) the high sea under sail power. A quick transfer in a Zodiac to cross the reef and a beautiful day on the atoll is yours to enjoy.

Equipped with motors in case there is no wind, the Vehia is always on time. It features a large cabin to rest or to stay away from the sun, unless you prefer to nap on the fore trampoline.

The adventure begins by a vist to the Birds' Island. On this protected site, thousands of sterns, frigates, noddis and boobies satisfy their legitimate curiosity by flying close to you. Their nests are spread among the tamanu trees along the beach. The birdies cheep with joy, but do not try to get close to them, they are closely watched by their careful parents which could show hostility in case of danger.

Swimming, a walk along the beach, snorkeling, it's all up to you. The atoll is all yours.   At mid day, a picnic is organized on the beach. And the dream continues… During the trip back to "civilization", you may see whales and dolphins which will escort you to Papeete or to Cook's Bay in Moorea. .

This day will remain one of the best memories of your vacations. The skipper of the Vehia know it, all smiles at the wheel, he knows he just made his passengers a little happier.
