Sailboats and charters
The sea is without a doubt the most natural way to approach these islands, as the first Mao'hi did on their double hull canoes when they arrived from Fiji, and before from the Philippines, Borneo and Southeast Asia. Nothing better also to experience the nonchalance and the nostalgia of the old 18th century schooners days when the Europeans discovered Tahiti and her islands over two centuries ago. So while pretending to be Cook, Bougainville or Wallis, you will be able to discover the different personalities of each visited island and its population. But unlike at the time of these famous navigators, you will enjoy allnecessary comfort and safety during your journey.
Single hull boats or catamarans rental companies are well developed in French Polynesia and offer rentals by the cabin or for the entire boat, with or without skipper.
There are also power boats for sport fishing as well as many skippers-owners offering their services and their boat for a half-day discovery cruise, an a la carte several week cruise or idyllic evening sailing with sunset and Champagne. In all cases, their knowledge of the secrets of the sea and their passion for Polynesia promise you splendid discoveries. All you have to do is to choose between a diving-cruise or a relaxing cruise.
But beware that you could get used to this and not want to go back home. We won't hold it against you, there has been famous precedents, mutiny has been part of local traditions since the Bounty!!!
