"I am Fiu" is an expression often heard in French Polynesia. It is difficult to translate and expresses a feeling of being tired, fed up, burned up, that you could approximately translate with " A wish to just relax ". Most of all, it requires the immediate stop of all activities, even if you fail to show up at an appointment. It is a feeling of becoming totally remote from everything and everybody, sometimes because you went to a "bringue" (a party) the night before, or it could be for no particular reason. It is therefore not unusual for an employee not to show up for work just because he was " fiu "… Fortunately tourist activities providers do not have this " fiu attitude " and are generally rather punctual!

But this attitude, at first distrurbing for the Popaa (tourists) more used to efficiency and stress of their country of origin, often ends up invading them also!   Thus, you will notice that after a few days keeping busy with sport and all kinds of activities, your body rythm starts to slow down and that two, three or four days of relaxation are in order. A good sign:  that you are going native!!!

CLICK to enlargeYou have to admit that with the ambiant heat, the sea, the beaches, the dance, the music, the monoi, the flowers and the suave fragrances, it is much easier to be " fiu " than the other way around.

For some time now, there are Spas and reconditioning centers in some major hotels, providing spas, jacuzzis, saunas, and even the cream of the crop: massages with monoï!  In other words, you get pampered and you become totally " fiu "! These centers are generally open to the public outside of the hotels, for an inclusive price. Inquire and quickly make an appointment:

But don't worry, nothing will stop you from feeling " fiu " as soon as you arrive! Between you and I, it is perhaps better and will make you save time!
