Tahitian first name

Some common female names: Tiare, Hinano, Poema, Maeva, Hina, Vaea, Titaua, Moea, Moeata, Tarita, Titaina, Teura, Heikapu, Mareva...

Some common male names: Hiro, Teiki, Moana, Manua, Marama, Teiva, Teva, Maui, Tehei, Tamatoa, Ioane, Tapuarii

Long gone is the time when you had names like ”Fetnat”(an abbreviation of the French National holiday) among exotic patronyms. Recently however a few quite offbeat names have turned out in the local maternity wards, such as Chirac (a tribute?) or Socredo (the name of a local major bank)... Some first names do not make it easy, such as Teriipeniamina, fortunately shorten to Terii, or Teivariitainuu, who is more often called Teiva. As to Taaiitetuamaoro, who knows what he is called?....

Names including the letter ”k” come from the Marquesas as in Teikikautai for example. Old French first names, which have long been out of fashion in France, are still popular in Polynesia, such as Isidore, Philomène, Désiré, Ignace, Honoré or Firmin, if not Scolastique!...
