The village of Teahupoo:  the myth of THE WAVE...
Located on the West Coast, facing the sunset, it is the village at the end of the road, 70km away from Papeete, followed only by a path along the sea and a trail for 4x4 vehicles. With its traditional activities  (fishing, aquaculture and handicrafts) and the friendliness of its population, Teahupoo is a good representative of the Polynesia that tourists expect to find. A very pretty marina, opened in 2002, is capable of hosting power and sail boats, with docks equipped with water and electricity as well as a launching slip. The black sand beach at the end of the road where children go boogy boarding.

This event brings about 150 persons (press, technicians, team crews, etc…) All year round, surfers from all over the world come to encounter THE wave and the people of Teahupoo watch them with amusement, as they get their picture taken in front of the sign marking the entrance of the village ! All surfing magazines talk about this village

The village is also made attractive by its hiking trails starting points, among which:   " The Pari " the hike to the cliffs which takes two days to reach the other side of the island through a trail that climbs up along the cliffs, continues along the sea and crosses the various coves. The hike across the Peninsula, that goes inland, up to a pass to come back down to Tautira. In the nearby villages, it is possible to find a variety of leisure activities:   on the Taravao plateau, located 15 km from there with the  Rauvau Ranch where you can go horseback riding, the International 18-hole golf course in Papeari, (30 km away) and nearby, the Botanical Garden and the Gauguin Museum.
